While COVID will be sticking around, many of the patient financial COVID benefits will be going away soon.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about numerous changes in the way we live and access healthcare. The emergency COVID measures that are currently active now have an expiration date: May 11, 2023. This means that in just a matter of months, the benefits we’ve come to rely on may no longer be available. It’s imperative that we act quickly to maximize the benefits while they’re still accessible to us and our patients.
The availability of FREE OTC COVID TESTS is coming to an end
One of the key benefits that’s set to expire is the availability of free OTC COVID tests. If you haven’t been billing for these tests, now is the time to start! People can currently stock up on up to 8 tests per person per 30 days at no cost.
- You can fill for each individual person
- 8 tests for a 30 day supply
- You need a signed attestation form
- Refill them to help patients stock up before this benefit goes away
Patients Will Be Slammed With Co-Pays
After May 11, 2023, patients will most likely have to pay out of pocket or be subject to co-pays. Let your patients know about the upcoming changes now. In some cases, patients on Medicaid may continue to be covered after May due to federal guidelines for Medicaid plans.
The changes in COVID measures will affect the delivery of care, and it’s important that we prepare for this ahead of time. The availability of free tests will be greatly impacted, and patients won’t like losing access to these essential services. That’s why it’s so important to help your patients take advantage of the free tests while they’re still available to them.
